We are just a week away from the World Cup kick-off, and starting on Thursday, NRG Stadium, which will be known as "Houston Stadium," will be under a full security lockdown.
The video above is from a previous report.
The City of Houston said there will be an enhanced perimeter around the stadium, and FIFA will set up an 8-foot-high "anti-climb" concrete reinforced fence.
The safety efforts won't stop at the gates.
"The mayor mentioned the drone operations. We do have those kinds of things involved," Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz said.

The Red Sox have to make a decision on Tommy Kahnle today. He opted out of his minor league deal with the Red Sox on Tuesday, and we’re approaching the end of 48-hour window where the team needs to call him up to prevent him from becoming a free agent. Since he would both provide a veteran presence in the clubhouse and has been great in Worcester (to the tune of a 1.40 ERA), it seems like the prudent move to clear a roster spot for him.
The spot that seems to make the most sense is Ryan Watson, who is a Rule 5 guy and needs to be offered back to the Giants if he doesn’t stay on the Red Sox 26-man roster all season. The fact the Red Sox let Ryan Watson go three innings to close out Payton Tolle’s gem last night also makes me think it could be him. This essentially burns all his bullets and rests the rest of the bullpen before you make the switch. We’ll know more in a few hours though.
Talk about this and whatever else you’d like in this thread, and as always, be good to one another.

EAST GREENWICH — It proved to be only a matter of time before Tessa Charello-Ingegneri and the rest of the attacking girls lacrosse crew that calls Carcieri Stadium home got going Wednesday evening.
East Greenwich was relentless coming forward around its junior standout, and an early Barrington lead in this Division I semifinal was gone by halftime.
The Avengers took control for good on a Charello-Ingegneri goal just 19 seconds into the third quarter and never looked back. They booked a return to the **** le round for the first time since 2023 after surging to a 16-9 victory over the Eagles.
Charello-Ingegneri finished with eight goals and had plenty of support from a lightning quick unit up front. Ava Halvorsen bagged a hat trick while Rell Ambler and Courtney Cavanaugh scored twice each to pull Barrington back after the visitors opened a 5-1 advantage in the opening eight minutes.
“When we came together after the first quarter, we just kind of collected ourselves,” Charello-Ingegneri said. “We told each other to focus, slow it down, look for the open person and make the right play.”

Holly Holm is interested in big fights, whether that's in boxing or MMA. | Getty/UFC

The finish line appears to be in sight for Holly Holm.

Holm, who is coming off a controversial split-decision loss to Stephanie Han in a boxing match under the Most Valuable Promotions banner last weekend, gave a rough timeline for the end of her combat sports career during an appearance on "The Ariel Helwani Show.”

I don't know, but if I'm being really honest, I want big fights. I'm not saying that all of them are big fights for a ******* le. ..Within the year and I'm done,” Holm said. “That's where I'm at. I definitely want them to be fights that people want to see. I want it to be something big like that. And that's where I'm at, whether it be MMA or boxing.”

Holm confirmed that likely means only one or two more fights total before the Jackson-Wink MMA standout calls it a career.

Holm hasn’t competed in MMA since UFC 300, when she suffered a second-round submission loss to future 135-pound champion Kayla Harrison in April 2024. More recently, “The Preacher’s Daughter” has gone 1-2 in boxing and also competed in wrestling under the Real American Freestyle banner.
Holm entered MMA in 2011 as a multiple-time world champion in boxing. She won her first nine outings, setting the stage for her head-kick knockout of the previously undefeated Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in November 2015. Though Holm’s championship reign was short lived, that victory propelled Holm to a new level of stardom that has lingered for the rest of her career.

After Rousey returned with a victory over Gina Carano at Most Valuable Promotions "Rousey vs. Carano" on May 16, there was some talk about a rematch with Holm. Rousey quickly dismissed the notion, claiming that she is once again retired and that she would “clean [Holm’s] clock” if they fought again. Holm says that she’s always been open to the rematch, but she believes Rousey feels differently.

“I don't think that she really wants to, and I'm not even mad at her for it,” Holm said. “I don't want someone to get in there and fight if they don't want to actually fight. Because I want someone who wants it.

“It’s never been because I said no. I 100% always said [if] she wants a rematch. I'll give it to her. And I have respect for her. She was the dominant champion, and she is good. She just came back and did her thing. She's good at what she does.”

Usman Nurmagomedov will fulfill the final fight on his current contract at PFL Long Island, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated free agencies in recent MMA history.
Undefeated reigning PFL lightweight champion Nurmagomedov (21-0) will meet Archie Colgan (13-0) in the main event of the July 31 card at UBS Arena in Belmont Park, N.Y. (ESPN). It's a massive moment for him, because it will set the stage for the next chapter of his career.
Nurmagomedov's potential free agency has been a major talking point for several months. It's now approaching reality, and although Nurmagomedov has nothing but praise for what PFL has done to him, he expects his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, of Dominance MMA, to survey the entire landscape.
"I did already 12 fights in Bellator and PFL and I'm very thankful for that," Nurmagomedov told MMA Junkie. "I love it. We have really good relationship with the team from PFL. I don't know what's going to happen next. If we talk about today, I didn't sign nothing. I have one fight left – this fight. Then we'll see.
"I don't have any problem to stay with PFL. I love PFL and let's see. Let's see if I will show my best performance. I think a lot of people will be interested in me. First of all, it's going to be PFL. I cannot say something now because this is Ali's job. I think he's going to figure it out. ... I will go out and do my job and if somebody going to pay me good money, we will stay there."

The Houston Texans will hit the road on Christmas Eve to take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
One key ****** et from the Super Bowl squad, however, won't be there at the Linc for the showdown before Santa can visit the city.
After months of speculation, the Eagles officially traded three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the fifth-round selection will be the better of New England's two selections in that round.
The move has been expected since the early stages of the offseason, when Brown, 29, addressed his frustrations with the franchise during the regular season. Mike Vrabel, who drafted Brown out of Ole Miss while serving as the head coach of the Tennessee ****** ans, made it clear that New England would be interested in adding him to the staff.
Since entering the league in 2019, Brown has been one of the more consistent weapons for Ryan Tannehill and later Jalen Hurts. In six seasons, he ranks fourth among all pass-catchers in both receiving yards (8,029) and touchdown catches (56).

Patriots' Kayshon Boutte may get a new team if A.J. Brown trade goes through originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Kayshon Boutte, through no fault of his own, may be about to lose his role with the New England Patriots.
If an A.J. Brown trade goes through to bring the star wide receiver aboard from the Philadelphia Eagles, Boutte will have to take a backseat.
The Pats already signed Romeo Doubs this offseason. Adding Brown would mean going from a top-two WR list of Stefon Diggs and Boutte and making it Brown and Doubs instead.
Yes, Boutte would be a high-quality WR3, and so his time in New England wouldn't be doomed.

The former Cherries boss was also wanted by Crystal Palace as they seek a replacement for Oliver Glasner, but with Selhurst Park chiefs accepting that Iraola seems destined for Anfield, they’ve now turned their attention to potentially hiring Lens coach Pierre Sage.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club are ‘expected to begin formal talks’ with Iraola’s camp this week and are keen to have the proposed appointment finalised before the World Cup commences on 11 June.
