Princess Diana's "revenge dress" is going up for auction for the first time in nearly 30 years
Diana wore the outfit in June 1994, the same night when the future King Charles confessed to his affair with the future Queen Camilla in a televised interview
Before hitting the auction block on Dec. 9, the outfit will go on a global exhibition tour
One of Princess Diana's most famous outfits is going up for auction — but not before an international tour.
Diana's "revenge dress" — the strapless black evening dress by Greek designer Christina Stambolian that she wore at the Serpentine Gallery in London on June 29, 1994, the same night as a televised interview in which the future King Charles confessed his infidelity with Camilla Parker-Bowles (now Queen Camilla) — will be sold this December by Sotheby's. This will mark the first time in nearly 30 years that the dress has been available to buy, after previously being offered at a 1997 auction, when Princess Diana sold 79 of her dresses to benefit cancer and AIDS charities shortly before her tragic death at age 36. Then, it sold for $65,000.
