FAYETTEVILLE — Enough waiting around.
The Arkansas football quarterback competition is over with two weeks remaining in the preseason.
First-year head coach Ryan Silverfield teased during SEC Media Days and at his press conference previewing fall camp that the Razorbacks might not announce the winner between KJ Jackson and AJ Hill until the offense ran on the field in Week 1 against North Alabama. Instead, the Hogs made things official on Sunday, Aug. 23, labeling Jackson as the starter.
After splitting first-team reps through the first 14 practices, Jackson will now have two weeks to build chemistry with the other offensive starters. Silverfield said it was a tight battle, and he remains confident in Hill, but Jackson created separation in one key category.
"Ultimately, it came down to the actual situational football," Silverfield said. "I believe a quarterback, in order to have success, has to be really efficient in those things. You guys hear me quite often talk about two-minute offense, four-minute offense, the check plays, the different things that come up."
