Breaking news: Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps on Saturday.
Tunsil was in a one-on-one drill with edge rusher Odafe Oweh. A video revealed Tunsil caught bending over in immediate pain.
The severity of the injury, of course, means Tunsil will require surgery and miss significant time. The Commanders' first three games are against the Eagles and Cowboys on the road, and then, in their first home game, they have to face the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Seattle Seahawks. All without their top player in 2025.
Brandon Coleman likely becomes the starting left tackle. Coleman is not a stranger to the position, having been drafted in the third round in 2024. Coleman then played in 16 of the 17 games of the 2024 season, starting 12 at left tackle. In 2025, Coleman started the first two games at left guard, but was suddenly replaced by Chris Paul. Coleman not only lost his job, but was strangely inactive for five games.
When Tunsil went down with a hamstring injury in 2025, Coleman then stepped in and started three consecutive games for Tunsil. After missing those three weeks, Tunsil returned, starting the remainder of the season at left tackle. Tunsil signed an extension with the Commanders this offseason for an average of $30 million per season, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.
