Deputies from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office have been dispatched to the Miami home of Perez Hilton after the blogger appeared to self-harm during a disturbing livestream on Tuesday.
The Sheriff's Office told Entertainment Weekly that the video prompted multiple calls to local police, who then visited Hilton's home, spoke with family members who were on the scene, and confirmed that Hilton was alone inside. They have since "tactically disengaged" with Hilton, and continue to monitor the situation.
"In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication," the statement read.
"Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public," wrote Argemis "AC" Colome, an officer with the Public Affairs Office.
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Hilton for comment.
