Abington Heights’ Anthony Piccotti had the top performance among athletes from the Lackawanna Track Conference competing at the New Balance National Championship track and field meet Thursday at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field.
Piccotti finished 17th in the freshman division of the pole vault. He cleared 12 feet, 5.5 inches. River Valley, California’s Colt Craig, won the national **** le with a height of 14-9.
Wallenpaupack’s Ryan Vargo finished 26th in the championship division discus. He had a best distance of 163 feet, 6 inches on the second of his three throws in the preliminary round. He also marked 157-0 on his final throw. Anthony Mason from Crofton Track Club in Maryland set a meet record with his winning throw of 209-5.
Abington Heights’ Aliya Lucarelli finished 32nd in the freshman 100 in 12.53 seconds. Paison Sanders of The St. James Academy in Virginia won the final later in the day with a meet record time of 11.62.
Western Wayne’s Sadie Booths competed in the championship division discus. The District 2 Class 2A champion failed to get a mark. Madison Davis of Atkins Track, from North Carolina, won the national **** le with a distance of 167-6.
