The uranium fund's history of deep dives offers a tough lesson for anyone tempted by the current discount.
Of the 15 times the Global X Uranium ETF (URA) has taken a steep dive since 2010, 14 are old enough to have a full twelve-month track record, and only 6 of those 14 episodes ended with a positive return. With the fund now sitting about 36% below its 52-week high, you are likely looking at that loss and asking a simple question: is this a bargain, or a warning sign?
For some funds, a dip is a gift. For others, it is a trap. The difference often comes down to what the fund holds. A broad, diversified basket is generally thought to recover more reliably from drawdowns. A concentrated, single-theme fund carries no such ****** umption, it can stay underwater for years if its theme falls out of favor. URA's own history suggests buying its dips is far from a sure thing.
A History of Hard Knocks
When URA has fallen this hard in the past, the typical outcome over the following year was not a rebound. The median return in the twelve months after a dip was negative 4%. While some episodes paid off handsomely, the range of outcomes was wide, from a one-year loss of 47% to a gain of 126%.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jimmy Carter used to be one of President Donald Trump 's favorite political targets, a catchall foil for ****** less Democrats that he could jeer at to make himself look strong and decisive.
But lately, Trump's sentiments on the 39th president have become more wistful as he faces some of the same challenges the late Carter did.
Those include the war in Iran with no end in sight — and now escalating as the U.S. moves to control the Strait of Hormuz — and inflation, a drag on the economy Trump hasn't tamed despite long insisting that his business background would wipe it out.
The comparison seems to be on Trump's mind, too. Asked last month why he didn't dispatch U.S. Special Forces into Iran to forcibly remove its enriched uranium, he responded, "I didn't feel like being Jimmy Carter."
That recalled the failed 1980 raid to free U.S. hostages that killed eight American servicemen. Trump also said in March that the unsuccessful mission "cost them the election" against Ronald Reagan in 1980, sounding cognizant of political realities in a way he didn't when using Carter as a punchline.

President Donald Trump on Monday sharply reduced the size of two national monuments in Utah, undoing protections established by his Democratic predecessors on public lands that are sacred among many Native Americans.
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in southern Utah have ancient cliff dwellings, petroglyphs and scenic canyons, as well as coal and uranium deposits that state officials want made available for development.
Trump, a Republican, issued proclamations under the Antiquities Act to reduce their size by about 90% each. He took similar actions during his first term, but those were reversed by President Joe Biden, a Democrat.
The latest move comes as Trump and other Republicans have drastically reshaped the management of vast taxpayer-owned lands concentrated in Western states. Trump administration officials and congressional Republicans have sought to expand drilling, mining and logging on public lands, while removing protections for imperiled species and rolling back rules for conservation.
"They took the land from the people quite honestly," Trump said at a signing event at the White House Monday. "We're giving it back."

WASHINGTON, July 13 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said that the U.S. would take out ‌Pickaxe Mountain in Iran, as he warned that ‌Washington would continue to hit the country hard.
"We're going to take out Pickaxe Mountain. Tell the Iranians to be ready," Trump said in an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show.
"We're watching (Pickaxe Mountain) closely. We see no activity there. They're not doing well ‌with their nuclear situation. Every time we hear about it, we blow it up. So they don't like talking about it. But we'll probably give Pickaxe a shot relatively soon," Trump said.
Pickaxe Mountain, located near Iran's heavily damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility, is a heavily fortified site that hosts two ‌deeply buried tunnel complexes that experts ******* s as beyond the reach of the most powerful bunker buster bombs in the U.S. ******* nal.
Trump earlier on Monday said the United States was reinstating its blockade of Iranian shipping in the ‌Gulf and would ensure the Strait of Hormuz stays open — for a fee — after the two sides exchanged more missile and drone attacks.

Nuclear power has shifted from a sleepy utility niche to the most strategically important corner of the energy market. AI-driven electricity demand, hyperscaler power-purchase agreements and an executive-level push to quadruple U.S. nuclear capacity to 400 GWe by 2050 have rewritten the sector's growth math. The EIA now models commercial data-center server electricity use growing more than 16 times above 2020 levels by 2050 in its High Electricity Demand case, with baseload sources doing the heavy lifting.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A Liberian oil tanker made its way out of the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday despite threats to shipping from Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, using a new route close to Oman's shore that has been promoted by a U.N. maritime agency.
The transit of the Stoic Warrior and the threats come as tensions rise between Iran and the United States over the terms of their interim accord aimed at permanently ending the Iran war.
From getting ships through the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf to the future of Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium, the two nations are increasingly debating the terms of the deal signed last week.
Through the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the U.S. and Iran agreed to a 60-day period to iron out these and other details. Until that happens — during private talks — leaders from both countries will also continue to negotiate in public, raising the risks of derailing the shaky ceasefire in the region.
On a trip to the Middle East, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke Thursday with Gulf Arab officials in Bahrain, the island kingdom in the Persian Gulf home to the Navy's 5th Fleet, trying to ****** uage their concerns.

Centrus Energy (LEU) has a unique positioning as the only publicly traded, deployment-ready enricher that's positioned to fuel the future of nuclear power. LEU stock's performance has however been middling with a decline of 4% in the last 52-weeks.
However, this should not be a deterrent from considering exposure to LEU stock. On the contrary, the sideways movement provides a good opportunity for exposure as Centrus Energy positions itself to benefit from the LEU (Low-Enriched Uranium) and HALEU (High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium) market.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Iran would have developed a nuclear weapon and used it on Israel were it not for the two recent wars. There is no public evidence for that ***** sment, which runs counter to those of the U.N. nuclear watchdog and U.S. intelligence agencies.
For decades, Netanyahu has made dire predictions about Iran's disputed nuclear program, most famously at the United Nations with visual aids. The rhetoric has escalated since the U.S. and Iran reached an interim peace deal this month, and as Netanyahu faces elections later this year.
Iran has always insisted its nuclear program is peaceful, even as it has enriched uranium to near-weapons-grade levels far higher than those required for civilian use. The United States and others say Iran's nuclear program had a military component until 2003.
Even before the two wars set back its nuclear program, Iran was months or years away from developing a usable atomic weapon, and there's no evidence it had chosen to pursue one. Israel is widely believed to have its own nuclear weapons.
Here's a closer look.

(By Oil & Gas 360) – The artificial intelligence revolution is creating an unexpected winner in the energy sector: uranium.
For years, uranium and nuclear energy occupied a relatively niche corner of the investment landscape, supported primarily by utilities, governments, and a handful of long-term investors. Today, that picture is changing rapidly. The rise of artificial intelligence, hyperscale data centers, and cloud computing is creating a new class of energy consumers whose demand for reliable electricity may be impossible to satisfy without a significant expansion of nuclear power.
The reason is simple: artificial intelligence requires enormous amounts of electricity.
Training advanced AI models, operating hyperscale data centers, and supporting the infrastructure behind cloud computing all consume far more power than traditional digital services, and as AI adoption accelerates, electricity demand is rising faster than many utilities and grid operators anticipated.
The International Energy Agency projects that electricity demand from data centers could more than double before the end of the decade, driven largely by AI workloads. In the United States, utilities are forecasting record power consumption as data center construction accelerates across Texas, Virginia, Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, and other key markets.

U.S. stock futures pointed to a strong start for trading on Monday, with investors expected to build on the gains recorded during the previous two sessions following news that Washington and Tehran have agreed to end a conflict that has lasted for more than three months.
The positive sentiment comes as markets ***** s the potential economic impact of the emerging agreement and its implications for energy prices and inflation.
President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that an agreement with Iran is "now complete" and announced the "toll free opening" of the Strait or Hormuz along with the immediate removal of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports.
Trump later clarified that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen once the agreement is formally signed on Friday, allowing mine-clearing operations to be completed first.
Reports indicate that the arrangement extends the ceasefire between the United States and Iran for 60 days, providing a framework for negotiations over Tehran's nuclear enrichment programme and the handling of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

The more generous U.S. ceasefire terms are, the more suspicious Iran becomes they’re a ruse for another attack, expert says

Iran’s regime may be wondering if an emerging deal to extend its ceasefire with the U.S. is too good to be true.
While talks are ongoing with key details still to be worked out, the outlines of a deal include Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and letting ships pass without paying tolls, sources told Axios. In return, the U.S. would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports and provide some sanctions relief, allowing let Tehran to sell oil openly.
But the most contentious issues must be settled during a 60-day window for talks. That includes Iran’s uranium as well as the U.S. permanently ending sanctions and releasing Iran’s frozen ****** ets abroad, estimated at $25 billion.
The U.S. would also maintain its military presence in the region and only withdraw once a final deal is reached, Axios said. But Trump would still give up significant leverage.
“One of the problems with this approach and deciding that you will just deal with the nuclear issue later is that waiving sanctions on Iranian oil exports now will decrease, not increase, Iran’s motivation for reaching a nuclear agreement,” Eric Brewer, former National Security Council director for counterproliferation, said on X. “Also, by tying those sanctions to the Strait, you’ve lost your ability to reimpose them without a huge risk that Iran retakes control of the waterway.”
