Shell has completed its acquisition of Canadian oil and gas producer ARC Resources, significantly expanding the supermajor's position in the prolific Montney basin of British Columbia and Alberta.
The transaction has an updated enterprise value of approximately $16.5 billion, including $2.5 billion of net debt and leases. ARC shareholders receive C$8.20 in cash and 0.40247 Shell shares for each ARC share, according to Shell.
The acquisition immediately adds around 370,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of natural gas and liquids production to Shell's portfolio and more than 1.5 million net acres in the Montney. At the end of 2025, ARC held around 2 billion boe of proved and probable reserves.
The deal also strengthens Shell's Canadian LNG strategy. ARC's gas resources sit close to Shell's existing Montney operations, while Shell owns a 40% interest in LNG Canada. ARC previously said its undeveloped gas properties could help Shell extract additional value through its integrated LNG business, including a potential second phase of LNG Canada.
Shell expects the acquisition to lift production growth across its Integrated Gas and Upstream businesses to around 4% annually through 2030, compared with 2025. The company expects double-digit returns and says the deal should boost free cash flow per share beginning in 2027.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) announced Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, that it intends to invest $100 billion in a new Starship campus on 125,000 acres in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, while the company expects the first launch by 2029.
Once completed, Starbase Louisiana is expected to have five launch complexes, each with two launchpads. The company says the site will have facilities for fuel production and storage, power generation, vehicle processing, deep-water shipping capabilities -- even housing and possibly an airport.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
One thing to note is that the site includes sensitive coastal wetlands. **** eX has said it will leave portions undeveloped and will work with state agencies on habitat protection, but the company's environmental record means the project is likely to face stiff opposition from conservation groups. The company is currently facing a lawsuit in Texas over a land swap that would hand it more than 700 acres of a national wildlife refuge, plus lawsuits for its use of gas generators to power its Colossus data center in Mississippi.
Governor Jeff Landry told reporters the project was important to improving the local economy, saying that, "this project means more than just steel, technology, and capital. It represents jobs for our families. It represents momentum for our communities, and it represents protection for our coast." **** eX itself says the project will bring 3,000 jobs to the region.

WASHINGTON, Aug 18 (Reuters) - The Trump administration took a step toward rescinding a decades-old rule that protects undeveloped forests on Tuesday in a move it says will help manage wildfire risk, but which environmental groups oppose, saying it would do the opposite.
President Donald Trump has rolled back environmental regulations and taken land out of conservation for purposes such as energy extraction.
The proposed rule filed by the U.S. Forest Service would rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which bans logging, roads and mining in undeveloped forests, and move authority to local national forest managers, according to a press release from the Department of Agriculture.
The U.S. is suffering one of its worst years for wildfires, with 7.3 million acres (3 million hectares) burned in around 49,000 fires through August 17, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

Madrid’s new F1 venue is already one of the most unconventional tracks on the calendar – the Madring is effectively split into two distinct halves by the M-11 motorway, with the southern portion built around the existing IFEMA exhibition halls and the northern section constructed on previously undeveloped land.
But the people running the place are already thinking about how to make it stranger. The layout is not set in stone, with the Spanish Grand Prix contracted to run at the venue through 2035.
That long runway gives the circuit’s operators room to experiment, and one idea on the table would make the Madring genuinely unprecedented in F1 history.
“We can also consider having the track inside the exhibition halls,” said track chief operating officer Carlos Jimenez to The Race. “It’s something that Formula E does in London, in the ExCel [Centre], and we are thinking about it here.”
The London ExCel comparison isn’t a throwaway comment from the executive. Formula E’s indoor/outdoor hybrid through the London docklands venue has been a fixture on that championship’s calendar for years, demonstrating that racing machinery can transition between open air and enclosed ***** e in a single lap. The logic is the same here. The IFEMA halls already sit directly alongside the circuit’s southern sector, so threading the track through them would be a matter of evolution rather than reinvention.

(By Oil & Gas 360) – Alaska may hold some of the largest undeveloped oil and natural gas resources in North America, yet attracting the capital needed to develop them remains a persistent challenge.
That contradiction is becoming increasingly apparent as policymakers seek to revive Arctic energy development while investors continue directing most of their dollars elsewhere. Despite renewed interest in North Slope production, major discoveries, and efforts to expand leasing opportunities, Alaska remains a difficult sell in a market increasingly focused on short-cycle returns and capital discipline.
The resource potential is enormous.
Alaska's North Slope still contains billions of barrels of recoverable oil, while the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is estimated to hold between 4 billion and nearly 12 billion barrels of technically recoverable crude. The National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska spans nearly 24 million acres and represents one of the largest undeveloped hydrocarbon regions in the United States.
Yet resource size alone has not translated into investor enthusiasm.
