Emily Flynn's highlight strike in the third minute put the Rams on their way to an opening victory over the visiting Huskies at Cimini Stadium in Providence on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Flynn found the top right corner from all of 25 yards and La Salle was razor-sharp from there while playing for the first time this season as defending state champions. Mila Falcone tucked one under the crossbar in the 13th minute and Allie Scott headed home a rebound off a Falcone shot in the 35th as the Rams took complete command before the break.
Scott added her second shortly after halftime to continue what was a strong performance along the left wing for La Salle (1-0-0). Grace Keenan made a sliding left-handed save on Mt. Hope striker Sara Nencka in the 70th minute to preserve the shutout. The Huskies (0-2-0) played without All-Stater and Boston College commit Emma Goglia, who was nursing a minor injury.
Both teams scored in first half on a rain soaked evening at Augeri Field in Westerly, with the Purple's Lucy Weber striking in the first two minutes, and the Bulldogs finding the equalizer at the 30-minute mark.

Jets RB Breece Hall's injury scare gets positive update from Aaron Glenn originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets got some very concerning news on Monday at practice, as running back Breece Hall went down with an injury that, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini, was non-contact.
Understandably, Jets fans were in a panic after this news broke. Their star running back might've just sustained a serious injury. So, fans eagerly waited for news from Aaron Glenn.
Fortunately, as Connor Hughes of SNY reported, Glenn's update on Hall was not a bad one. Instead, Glenn revealed that Hall's groin injury is not believed to be a big issue.
"It's a strained groin, Aaron Glenn tells reporters at practice, and he doesn't believe it's a big issue," Hughes reports.

Jets get concerning Breece Hall scare amid reported untouched injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets played their first preseason game not too long ago, and Breece Hall did suit up and play for a little while with Cade Klubnik and the other starters.
He finished the day with four carries for 16 yards, with no targets or receptions. It was a quiet debut after his big-money offseason extension, but he came out okay. However, Monday's practice was a different story.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Hall went down "untouched" during practice with an injury in a major injury scare for the Jets that still has a lot of uncertainty around it.
"Breece Hall goes down, untouched, while running after a catch. #Jets ," Cimini reports. This update from Jets practice is very worrying.

Jets first look at Cade Klubnik was very encouraging for 2 reasons originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets played their first game of the NFL preseason on Friday night, and while it resulted in a 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there were plenty of good moments during the night.
One of the biggest storylines coming out of this game, though, is the play of rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik. The former Clemson QB got his first NFL action, and his performance was very encouraging for two reasons.
ESPN's Rich Cimini highlighted one of the reasons why the Jets can be optimistic about Klubnik, as his two-series debut went off without a hitch. But the other reason this was an encouraging game for Klubnik is a bit more under the radar.
"Klubnik strengthened the case for the No. 2 job, leading the starting offense to a field goal and touchdown in his only two series," Cimini writes.

Jets cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers was transported in an ambulance to a local hospital after losing consciousness during a joint practice with the Buccaneers.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn said after practice that Stiggers was conscious and talking on the field. Stiggers also received an IV before being taken by stretcher to the waiting ambulance.
The Jets have not updated Stiggers' condition.
Glenn said Stiggers "came to the sideline, and he just passed out."
"For the most part, he was good," Glenn said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Quarterback Geno Smith is back with the Jets. In the first offseason of his second tenure with the team, Smith was involved in an incident that sparked an on-again, off-again police investigation. (The probe is currently off.)
On Tuesday, in his first press conference since the situation unfolded, Smith expressed regret for creating an off-field issue for his team.
"I really hate the fact that something I was a part of could've been a distraction for this team, my teammates and this organization because a lot of hard work has been put in," Smith said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.
"A lot of guys have put in a lot of work for us to be in a good spot as a team. I'm happy that I'm able to put this behind me. I'm looking forward to moving forward."
Smith, per Cimini, also said he discussed the situation with coach Aaron Glenn, General Manager Darren Mougey, and veteran leaders on the team. Smith did not elaborate on what was said.

Jets have new favorite in CB battle of D'Angelo Ponds vs. Nahshon Wright originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
There are a lot of interesting things for the New York Jets fanbase to pay attention to during training camp. Offense will be a key focus with Frank Reich taking over as offensive coordinator with some important new faces on the roster.
But, looking to the defensive side of the ball, after going interception-less in 2026, the cornerback job that's up for grabs will be a very interesting and important battle this summer.
Rich Cimini of ESPN revealed the favorite of this battle between Nahshon Wright, D'Angelo Ponds, and Azareye'h Thomas. While Ponds could be the pick with Aaron Glenn as his NFL comp, the former Chicago Bears CB has the edge on the competition.
"Conerback No. 2: Nahshon Wright is the favorite, but he will be pushed by Azareye'h Thomas. Rookie D'Angelo Ponds could be in the mix, too, but he might slide inside to the slot," Cimini writes.

Police in Davie, Florida have closed an investigation into an accusation that New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith **** aulted a woman at his home. Smith will not face charges.
Per a police report reported by multiple outlets, police cited the absence of witnesses and surveillance footage to corroborate the allegation and carry on with the investigation.
From the police report, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini:
"Due to the inability to review surveillance footage, conflicting stories, and lack of independent witnesses, (the officer) was unable to determine the primary aggressor in the physical altercation."
Per the report, Smith provided police with Ring camera footage that “did not show any physical altercation occur between the two." It’s not clear if there was further surveillance footage that police could not access.

It's supposed to be a quiet time for NFL players. Lately, it hasn't been quiet for Jets quarterback Geno Smith.
In June, police started (then stopped, then started again) an ****** ault investigation in Florida. More recently, Smith was ticketed for speeding.
ESPN's Rich Cimini said in an appearance on the Jets Collective podcast that it happened on July 6 at roughly 11:00 a.m. ET. Per Cimini, police said Smith was driving 70 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. Smith was also cited for not being able to produce a license.
In isolation, and as Cimini said, it's not a big deal. But Smith is the starting quarterback of the New York Jets, and there's already an unresolved cloud hanging over him. Anything he does is going to make news.
Cimini hasn't tweeted about it on his account, and there's no item on ESPN.com. But he said it on Jets Collective, and others have picked up on it.

Jets linebacker Demario Davis is heading into his 15th NFL season, and he has missed only one game in his NFL career, an impressive run of durability that he attributes to the way he takes care of his body throughout the year.
Davis told Rich Cimini of ESPN that he spends nearly $1 million a year on keeping himself fit and healthy for the rigors of an NFL season. It's clearly working, as he's still going strong at age 37, and is now one of the Top 10 linebackers in NFL history in games played.
Davis pays a team of six different people to keep him in shape, and he says the various forms of physical therapy he gets are his top priority.
"I go from the field to the table, from the table to the field," Davis said. "What I mean by that is, when I'm not training, I'm recovering. When I'm not recovering, I'm training."
Among the recovery work Davis does is acupuncture, radio frequency energy stimulation, naturopathic medicine, chiropractic care, muscle activation, cupping, scraping, dry-needle therapy, red-light therapy, fascia stretching, hot and cold tubs, epsom salt baths and active release therapy.

Earlier today, there was a question as to whether the **** ault allegation involving Jets quarterback Geno Smith was, or wasn't, the subject of an open case.
Rich Cimini of ESPN has clarified the situation.
A police spokesperson told this to Cimini: "It is not an active case, but is still being reviewed before [a report] can be released."
Cimini also notes that the Jets aren't commenting on the situation.
The fact that the case has been closed doesn't foreclose an NFL investigation under the Personal Conduct Policy.

Brendan Sorsby's future is now in the hands of the NFL franchises, as he decided to drop his case for eligibility against the NCAA last week. Instead of trying to overcome his lifetime ban from college athletics, the signal-caller will now enter the NFL supplemental draft.
Whether or not he will attract the interest of any NFL teams remains to be seen. However, according to insider Rich Cimini, at least one team isn't at all interested in his services. Even while the New York Jets (worth $8.1 billion, according to Forbes) are looking for a new starting quarterback, they aren't interested in recruiting Sorsby due to his betting scandal.
"They don't want to deal to deal with it," said ESPN's Rich Cimini via NFLSleeper.
The Jets did select one quarterback during the 2026 NFL draft, as they took Clemson's Cade Klubnik in the fourth round with the 110th overall pick.
Unlike the Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Cleveland Browns are reportedly interested in getting Sorsby.

Jets minicamp might provide an answer to big No. 2 receiver question originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets are heading into mandatory minicamp with a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball. While there will be a lot of attention on Aaron Glenn's defense, the offense is going to have a ton of eyes on it this summer.
Geno Smith is the new quarterback, as he's returning for the first time in nearly a decade. But there is a more interesting question for the Jets at minicamp.
As ESPN's Rich Cimini highlighted, the Jets have a big question about their wide receiver two behind Garrett Wilson that might get answered during minicamp.
"Who is emerging as Geno Smith's No. 2 target? We know Garrett Wilson is the No. 1, but the Jets need another reliable option in the passing game," Cimini writes.
