NEW DELHI, Sept 12 (Reuters) - The BRICS group of nations unanimously adopted a joint declaration on Saturday, expressing "deep concern" over the war in the Middle East and urged maximum restraint, advocating for a "multilateral approach" that respects national viewpoints.
The declaration, adopted on the first day of the BRICS leaders' annual summit in New Delhi, comes at a time when U.S. and Iran have resumed ****** -for-tat strikes against each other, after a pause in fighting for much of August.
The BRICS bloc includes both Iran and Washington-ally United Arab Emirates, which was expected to make clinching a joint statement consensus a particularly challenging task for host New Delhi.
"We express deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in Middle East...call for exercising maximum restraint...avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation," the 'New Delhi Declaration' said.

Sept 7 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Monday that Canada-based airplane maker Bombardier would no longer be allowed to sell in the United States unless it started manufacturing in the country.
"NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren't good enough!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
"If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a "piggybank," he said.
Bombardier did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Canada and the United States have been locked in a trade dispute.

President Donald Trump is taking action to ensure most federal workers do not see a pay increase next year and denying concerns about its impact on employee retention and agency productivity, despite warnings to the contrary.
Trump's 2027 fiscal budget proposal did not mention pay increases for civilian federal employees, who include air traffic controllers, IRS tax auditors, and food safety inspectors. In a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson last week, Trump confirmed that these employees would not see a pay increase for next year. Meanwhile, members of the military would see between a 5% to 7% pay increase, part of an effort to "rebuild our military's readiness and capabilities."
The president noted that a pay freeze for most employees was a result of increased inflation levels during the Biden administration. Inflation has increased from 3% to 3.4% since Trump took office in January 2025.
"Such a large raise for Federal employees while most Americans still struggle with the consequences of the Biden Administration's giant inflation spree is unacceptable and would be unfair," Trump wrote.
Trump insisted the move would not impact workforce levels, arguing, "This decision will maintain fiscal responsibility without harming the government's ability to recruit and retain well qualified employees."

Ten people, including local Caribbean musicians, are dead after a plane crashed on the largest island in the Bahamas, local officials said.
According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA), a Cessna 402 crashed just after 1 p.m. local time on Friday, July 10, after departing Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau.
The aircraft, with Bahamas registration C6-FLX, was en route to San Andros Airport on Andros Island, the AAIA announced in a news release.
The aircraft, operated by Flamingo Air, reportedly "encountered difficulties and crashed into bushes prior to landing," in North Andros, according to the release.
"Response efforts are currently underway, with the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Airport Authority, and emergency medical personnel responding to the accident site," the release continues. "The AAIA extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic accident and keeps all those impacted in its thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is suggesting he has left standing orders for the U.S. military to destroy Iran " at levels they've never seen before " if Tehran follows through on its long-standing threats to kill him.
But the U.S. government has no way to create an automatic, preauthorized "dead man's switch" that would prompt immediate retaliation.
Instead, if Trump were killed, the transfer of power to his successor is governed by the 25th Amendment and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. Vice President JD Vance instantaneously would become commander in chief and have authority for any retaliation.
Under such a scenario, Vance could do exactly what Trump called for, though there also is a chance he could decide not to follow his predecessor's orders — or offer a direct response in a different way.
"The U.S. has, for a whole variety of reasons, never utilized a technical 'dead man's switch,'" said Garrett M. Graff, author of "Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself -- While the Rest of Us Die."

June 29 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy mocked Russia's military drive on Monday, saying the Kremlin over the course of more than four years had set and put off 15 deadlines to capture the eastern Donbas region.
Zelenskiy's comments amounted to a response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's rejection a day earlier of what the Kremlin leader said was a Ukrainian proposal to abandon long-range strikes and scale down the fighting.
He said Putin's comments showed he was out of touch with the feelings of Russians who faced queues at petrol stations, linked to a Ukrainian campaign of strikes on oil industry targets.
"Even an oil-producing state, a 'gas station' as Russia has often been called, is now facing fuel shortages," Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address.
"This is a direct consequence of the war. One of many consequences. It is also one example of how Ukraine responds — with precision, not through terrorism."
