Stephen A. Smith has opened up about his relationship with former ESPN colleague Cari Champion, claiming he played a key role in helping her land her job at the network.
Smith made the comments while discussing Champion's remarks about their relationship, with the veteran sports media personality appearing frustrated that his past efforts on her behalf have not been acknowledged.
According to Smith, he did not know Champion before she arrived at ESPN but became involved when she was being considered for a role on First Take. He claims he approached Skip Bayless and asked him to support Champion coming on board.
