ORLANDO — Minutes after Jones High School's football team held on to beat rival Evans 12-6 in the Soul Bowl, one Tigers ****** istant coach proudly announced, "Fred Ards has all the tools!"
Ards, a Texas A&M commit ranked No. 10 on the USA Today Florida Network top 100, and the defensive line put on a show in the Tigers win on Sept. 5.
The 6-foot-4 ½, 220-pound four-star edge rusher recorded three sacks — using a different technique for each one — and had at least two tackles for loss against Evans and its Maryland quarterback commit, William Jackson.
"It was a big game," Ards said. "Coach told us to knock these boys heads off. Give it all we've got. Whatever my head coach needs, I'm going to do it for him."
Ards and Jones' vaunted defensive line –— including UCF commit Noah Robinson, West Virginia commit DaJour Webb and Syracuse commit Braylon Otis — made several big plays against Evans.
