We certainly had our fun with the small slate of games in Week 0, but now it's time for the real fun to begin in Week 1. Nearly every team in college football will receive their first opportunity to prove their worth this weekend, whether it be against a lower-tier opponent that they should demolish or a higher-caliber one that they can make a real statement by upsetting. Four of the teams in the Mountain West will be playing in their second game of the season, while the remaining six have their respective season openers. Let's take a look at these matchups, and what we should expect from the Mountain West in Week 1.

Preview: San Jose State was obliterated by USC in their Week 0 matchup, only ever looking competitive once the Trojans pulled their starters in the fourth quarter. Their biggest positive from that game was that their offense, which had a national-bronze 17 interceptions in 2025, did not turn the ball over once, which bodes well for them going forward. This is especially true heading into another road matchup against the Eastern Michigan Eagles, who managed to win their Week 0 opener against new MAC opponent Sacramento State.
