At around 6 p.m., the Pittsburgh National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Bethel Park area.
Shortly after the warning was issued, thunderstorms, along with heavy rain and hail, began to fall, and the storms continued into the 7 p.m. hour before the originally scheduled kickoff time.
The game between the two teams was part of the first WPIAL Insider Thursday Night Primetime game of the year, with Moon Area aiming to even up its record after a tough 28-25 loss to Montour in Week 1. Bethel Park was coming off a tight 14-13 win over Class 6A Hempfield.
