Chicago State University kicked off a new chapter in its history Saturday, taking the field for its first-ever college football game as it opened its inaugural season at SeatGeek Stadium against Roosevelt University.
Tailgates, grills and enthusiastic fans filled the stadium grounds ahead of the highly anticipated matchup, which drew alumni, students and supporters eager to witness the program's debut.
For some Chicago State alumni, the moment was years in the making.
"There was promises of it when we were in school 20 years ago and it didn't happen so 20 years later to see it were excited," said Chicago State alumni Tameca and Jordonna.
Others said they wanted to support the university as it launches its new program.
