Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson's time with the team is done. He was unable to get back on the field and play after suffering a knee injury last season in Week 4. The Cardinals waived him on Monday with an injury designation. If he goes unclaimed, he will revert to injured reserve, where he will remain until he receives an injury settlement.
Benson was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round in 2024. He rushed for 291 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.8 yards per carry as a rookie and caught six passes for 59 yards.
Last season, entering the season as the No. 2 running back behind James Conner, rushed for 160 yards in four games, averaging 7.3 yards per attempt, and he had 13 receptions for 64 yards.
He went on injured reserve with a knee injury, returned to practice but had a setback and reverted to injured reserve to finish the year. This offseason, he finally began practicing during training camp, had a couple of good practices and then had his knee flare up. He hadn't practiced since.
It is a disappointing end to his Cardinals career.
