Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn acknowledged a major problem after Saturday's preseason loss to the Detroit Lions.
"Sam's really having a good camp," Quinn said in reference to right guard Sam Cosmi. "Like, maybe playing the best I've seen him play in the couple, three years [since Quinn arrived in 2024]. Technique, he's on it. I like what I'm seeing on the outside, you know, at left tackle. So, we got work to do to figure out where we want to get to at center."
Quinn finally acknowledged what everyone else has been saying for months. The center position is a grave concern ahead of the regular season. We've discussed it for months; GM Adam Peters' decision to cut Tyler Biadasz and go with Nick Allegretti could have major consequences. Allegretti isn't even the problem, at least as far as we know. He's barely practiced. But instead of signing a veteran center to push Allegretti, or at least provide insurance, Washington chose to roll with Julian Good-Jones and rookie sixth-rounder Matt Gulbin. The pair have combined for two career NFL snaps.
The problems have been apparent throughout camp with Allegretti sidelined. They showed up again on Saturday. After Saturday's game, we mentioned longtime NFL starter Graham Glasgow as a potential name that could interest Washington. It's not the first time that we mentioned Glasgow as a possibility for the Commanders.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound 10-year veteran was released by the Lions in a cost-cutting move earlier this year. He hasn't indicated that he plans to retire. So, on Sunday, while Glasgow was streaming on Twitch, someone mentioned him as a possibility for the Commanders and offensive coordinator David Blough — his former teammate.
