A blue plaque is set to be installed in Halifax in honour of former England striker Frank Worthington.
Worthington, who won eight England caps and scored twice for the national team, began his career at Huddersfield Town before playing for Leicester City, Bolton, Birmingham City, Southampton and Leeds United in a career spanning 25 years.
An initial fundraising target to purchase the plaque was hit within days of the campaign being launched by Halifax Civic Trust.
John Peters, volunteer and committee member for the trust, said the plaque would provide the community with "a way to remember" Worthington - who is believed to be Halifax's only ever capped England player.
"A lot of the blue plaque recognition has been for sort of industrialists and politicians - my thought was to see if we could make some of the nominees a little more relatable," Peters said.
