The Braves are reaching a boiling point. A blown check-swing call (and the resulting refusal to check the first base umpire) set off Mauricio Dubón in yesterday's game. Walt Weiss ran out to rescue Mauricio, getting ejected in the process. But was this the result of a Carlos Torres poor game in Houston two years ago?
Two years ago, Carlos Torres covered first base for a game between the Rangers and Astros. In the top of the sixth, Torres calls Wyatt Lanford out on a double play. This call would be overturned.
Two batters later, Nathaniel Lowe is called safe by Torres while trying to beat out a ground ball. This call would be overturned.
Carlos Torres was still not done. In the bottom of the ninth, Mauricio beats out a chopper to shortstop for a base hit. Torres calls him out.
I mean, what are we doing here?
