Sacha Boey may have impressed some at Bayern Munich during preseason, but board member for sport Max Eberl does not believe a strong run of performances automatically changes the bigger picture at the club.
Speaking about whether Boey could play his way into staying with the club, Eberl acknowledged the French full-back's qualities but pointed to Bayern Munich's depth at right-back.
"There's no doubt that Sacha has qualities, but when I look at the squad there's Stani and Konny at right-back. So being right-back number 3 does not do anyone justice. Yes, injuries could change things, but keeping Sacha because Konny is out for a week is wrong from a financial and sporting point of view," said Eberl (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
The comments are significant because they suggest Bayern Munich are still viewing Boey as a player who could be moved on rather than someone who has secured a place in Vincent Kompany's squad.
With Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer ahead of him in the right-back pecking order, Eberl believes keeping Boey as a third-choice option would not make sense unless circumstances change.
