Trent Dilfer is sending a message in his first year back as the Lipscomb Academy (Nashville, Tenn.) football coach.
On Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, the Mustangs' football program posted its 2026 schedule on X (formerly Twitter). In a very obvious trend that starts with their home opener on Aug. 21, the account said "Us vs. Us," pertaining to the schedule. In fact, all 13 entries of the schedule — including a Week 7 bye, the playoffs and the state championship — had the same "Us vs. Us."
Dilfer — the former Super Bowl champion during his 14-year NFL career — led Lipscomb Academy to three straight championship appearances during his first tenure with the Mustangs from 2019-2022. He won two state ***** les before being hired by the University of Alabama-Birmingham as the head coach in 2023.
He took a Blazers program coming off a 7-6 record in 2022 and finished with a 9-21 record, resulting in a midseason firing on Oct. 25, 2025.
Dilfer was rehired as the head coach at Lipscomb Academy in January. Following his leave, the program went 11-20 over the last three years with just one playoff appearance.
