The Colorado Rockies closed July by matching their entire 2025 win total.
Following an hour-long rain delay, Tomoyuki Sugano delivered 6.2 excellent innings, the Rockies converted five hits and two Kansas City errors into three runs against All-Star right-hander Michael Wacha, and Jordan Romano retired the Royals in order in the ninth to secure a 3-1 victory Friday night at Coors Field.
Colorado improved to 43-67, while Kansas City fell to 46-65. Last year's Rockies did not reach win No. 43 until September 21.
Sugano earned the victory to improve to 11-4. Wacha fell to 5-8 despite striking out seven across six innings, and Romano recorded his ninth save.
Tomoyuki Sugano did not overpower the Kansas City Royals. He simply controlled nearly every part of the game.
