WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. - Malik Nabers isn't yet declaring himself ready to play on Opening Night against the Dallas Cowboys, a primetime showdown at MetLife Stadium that won't be here for another 45 days.
Those of us watching from the sidelines at The Greenbrier Resort the past two practices of New York Giants' training camp will judge by body language, the smoothness of Nabers' routes and the lack of hesitancy in any of his football movement can and will make our own determinations.
The loudest and most definitive declaration of all: Nabers' smile, flashed several times following Thursday's practice when talking about his long and winding road back to the field, and whether there is any doubt he can be the player he was as a record-setting rookie for the Giants two seasons ago.
His bold answer: Malik Nabers promises to be even better.
"I got extreme confidence in myself," Nabers said. "I'm not going to put myself in any spot that I feel like I'm not going to be better than what I was before. So, I don't see myself being what I was before. What y'all saw my rookie year, I felt like that was basic. I left a lot of stuff on the field [in 2024]. I got high standards for myself. I know everybody has high standards for me, but the standard that I hold myself to is very high."
