CHASKA, Minn. – Nelly Korda's bid to become the third player in golf history to win the first three majors of the season fell short at rain-soaked Hazeltine National. After a sluggish start to the final round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, the world No. 1 got as close as three shots of the lead after making three straight birdies on Nos. 7-10.
A bogey on the par-4 12th hole, however, put a halt to her charge as South Korea's Haeran Ryu proved unrelenting.
Korda shot 1-over 73 in the final round to finish at 6 under in a share of eighth, seven back of Ryu, who claimed her first major **** le.
"You guys made that such a big thing," said Korda of the quest for a third consecutive major win. "I didn't think about that, no. Like no – I was just kind of disappointed in the way that I played this week, not that I came up short really.
"I was just thinking about the way that I played, not like the realistic big picture that everyone is talking about."
