Just before the summer dead period for incoming senior high school football recruits, the Washington Huskies have made a significant in-state offer.
On Monday, three-star Puyallup (Wash.) athlete J'Isaiah Mitchell announced an offer from the local Big Ten school at defensive back. Mitchell, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound wide receiver and cornerback for Puyallup High School, made a verbal commitment to Boise State earlier this month following an official visit to the City of Trees.
It's not hard to see why UW secondary coach John Richardson put an offer out to Mitchell, having developed a pair of tall cornerbacks, Ephesians Prysock and Tacario Davis, into NFL draft picks this past April. Though the top 10 in-state prospect, based on 247Sports' Composite rankings, isn't as polished or as highly-rated as both previous UW cornerbacks were, there is more than enough clay to work with at the next level.
Mitchell has the tools to hold up outside at the Power Four level, possessing ideal cover skills and more than enough size to have a productive career on defense should he choose that path.
With four of the 10 highest-rated recruits in the Evergreen State secured in the 2027 class, UW may be poised to add another in Mitchell, though it might still be a few months before a potential flip in his commitment status occurs.
