The PGA Tour isn't leaving Torrey Pines any time soon.
As expected, the La Jolla, California, stop will remain on the calendar, though under a different – albeit familiar – name beginning in 2027. The Sentry, which transitions from its former home at Kapalua, will be contested Jan. 27-30, 2027, a week after the season-opening American Express, and then become part of the Championship Series in 2028.
The PGA Tour has already announced two other Championship-level tournaments: the longstanding Travelers Championship and a new event sponsored by Sompo, which will be played in Napa, California, next summer before relocating to another market.
A complete 2028 Championship Series schedule is expected to be released in late January and include 23 to 24 events, including the majors, Players Championship, reimagined playoffs and Cup events.
This season's Sentry at Kapalua was canceled due to ongoing drought conditions, though the PGA Tour has since scrapped its Hawaiian Swing while repurposing the Sony Open as a PGA Tour Champions event.

The PGA Tour has begun revealing which tournaments will become Championship Series events in 2028 when a new two-track model is implemented.
First up for the PGA Tour's top-tier Championship Series is the Travelers Championship, which has been played annually at TPC River Highlands just outside Hartford, Connecticut, each June, typically the week after the U.S. Open. Since 2023, the Travelers has been one of eight $20 million signature events on the PGA Tour. The announcement was made on Monday.
In 2028, the PGA Tour Championship Series will comprise roughly 15 regular-season events, in addition to the four major championships, Players Championship, and playoff events. Purses for the PGA Tour-operated events (the non-majors) will be at least $20 million, with some tournaments like the Players and a revamped Tour Championship offering even more prize money. The second-tier Challenger Series will comprise at least 20 events, each offering much lower purses of at least $4 million. Both series will run from approximately February to August, and will include annual promotion and relegation between the circuits.
"Right now we have 47 events at the PGA Tour—we'll have 47 events going forward," PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said when he unveiled the plans for the new scheduling model in June. "That current model serves roughly 230 players. We'll serve that amount of players, the same. We are just organized now in a more simple understanding competitively so our fans can understand it, our partners know what they're getting as far as value. So we think we've just organized the same tour into a much more interesting and competitive system."
The second confirmed Championship Series event will be sponsored by Sompo, a ***** anese insurance and financial services firm, the PGA Tour announced on Tuesday. The event's market has yet to be determined, though. In 2027, Sompo will back a full-field (non-signature) PGA Tour event at Silverado Resort's North Course in Napa, California, July 29 to Aug. 1—effectively replacing the Rocket Classic in Detroit, which is leaving the PGA Tour schedule after this season. In 2028, the Sompo event will relocate to a new market as part of the transition to the Championship Series.

Sompo International's wholly owned Brazilian subsidiary, Sompo, has signed an agreement to acquire local peer Fator Seguradora.
The value of the transaction has not been disclosed and the deal remains subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities.
According to the translated version of the announcement, the acquisition is part of Sompo's strategy to expand its presence in the corporate insurance market by widening its portfolio of specialised solutions.
The company said the deal will strengthen its position in business lines in which Fator Seguradora has consolidated operations and recognised expertise, particularly property, guarantee and financial lines.
It said completion of the transaction is expected to further reinforce its market position.

The 21-year-old keeper joins Aston Villa from **** anese SOMPO WE League club INAC Kobe Leonessa. During her time with the **** anese club, Okuma continuously challenged at the top level. She was a SOMPO WE League runner-up with INAC Kobe Leonessa in 2024/2025 while the club narrowly missed out on the WE League Cup and Empress's Cup in the same season. The club finally claimed the league **** le last season.
On the international stage, Okuma recently broke into **** an's senior squad. She has four senior caps to her name to date. She won the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup with Nadeshiko. The keeper was a regular in the nation's youth sides in her early years.
After sealing her move to Aston Villa, Okuma said: "I'm very happy to be here. I feel really fortunate to be a part of this club, and I can't wait to play with the team."
Okuma is Aston Villa's seventh signing of what is proving to be a very busy transfer window for the club.
