The ACC revealed the pre-season all-conference team on Wednesday, and NC State did not have anybody selected. Which isn't exactly surprising—I'm not sure who outside of CJ Bailey would have a credible argument at this point. There are guys with potential, of course—Harvey Dyson could have himself a year, for one—but the guesswork is a bit tougher in the portal era.
Bailey received 15 votes for Pre-season Player of the Year, fourth behind Darian Mensah, Kevin Jennings, and Isaac Brown.
2026 ACC Football Preseason Player of the Year (votes)
1. Darian Mensah, QB, Miami (97)
2. Kevin Jennings, QB, SMU (25)
3. Isaac Brown, RB, Louisville (16)
4. CJ Bailey, QB, NC State (15)
5. Duce Robinson, WR, Florida State (12)
6. Sammy Brown, LB, Clemson (11)
7. Kam Robinson, LB, Virginia (5)
8. Will Heldt, DE, Clemson (4)
9. Mason Heintschel, QB, Pitt (3)
The absence of Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele from this list is apparently due to the fact that the ACC did not even put him on the ballot, which is baffling, to say the least. Is there a paper shortage at the league office? What is the need for a list so short that it excludes one of the ACC's best quarterbacks? They, uh, did remember that Cal is in the ACC, right?

Detroit — Day 2 of USA Hockey's Summer Showcase practice camp saw a pair of Red Wings draft picks flank a top 2027 draft prospect, and the trio turned some heads.
Detroit draftees J.P. Hurlbert and Victor Plante played with 2027 draft-eligible Sammy Nelson and looked like a strong group as Team USA evaluates a 48-player group contending for December's 25-man World Junior roster.
Hurlbert and Plante, drafted by the Red Wings in the first and second rounds, respectively, last month in Buffalo, bring strong offensive toolkits to the grouping. Nelson dominated drills at both ends of the ice at Little Caesars Arena's Belfor training center. The group played with an attacking mindset, and that meshed well with the identity Team USA is preaching at this early camp.
"There's a lot of good players out there, and it's going to be competitive to make the team for sure," said USA coach Adam Nightingale, the head coach at Michigan State.
"But definitely, some guys you can tell are starting to step off the page a little bit."

BALTIMORE — Pete Crow-Armstrong isn't showing any signs of cooling off at the plate.
Crow-Armstrong became the first hitter with at least 20 home runs and 20 steals in MLB this season when he went deep in the third inning to give the Chicago Cubs an early lead against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night at Camden Yards.
The 24-year-old center fielder took Orioles starter Dean Kremer out of the ballpark again in the fifth for his second mutlihomer game of the season. Seiya Suzuki added a three-run shot in a five-run seventh, and the Cubs held on for a 9-7 victory, their third straight and eighth in 10 games.
Crow-Armstrong is the first Cub with back-to-back 20-20 seasons since Sammy Sosa did it in three straight (1993-95) and the third with multiple such seasons (Sosa and Ryne Sandberg).
He accomplished the feat before the All-Star break for a second consecutive season. It again puts Crow-Armstrong in rare company as one of four players in MLB history to go 20-20 before their team's 95th game in a season after reaching the mark in 73 games last year and in the Cubs' 92nd game Wednesday. He joins Alfonso Soriano (2002-03, '06), Jose Canseco (1988, '98) and Bobby Bonds (1969, '73, '77).

Welcome back to BCB After Dark: the coolest spot for night owls, early risers, new parents and Cubs fans abroad. Come on in and cool off with us. There’s no cover charge. The dress code is casual. We still have a few tables available. There’s a two-drink minimum, but it is bring your own beverage.
BCB After Dark is the place for you to talk baseball, music, movies, or anything else you need to get off your chest, as long as it is within the rules of the site. The late-nighters are encouraged to get the party started, but everyone else is invited to join in as you wake up the next morning and into the afternoon.
Last night, I asked you if you would be like to see the Cubs trade for Aroldis Chapman again. The last time the Cubs did that, they won the World Series. This time, 55 percent of you would like to deal for the older (and hopefully wiser) Chapman.
Here’s the part with the music and the movies. You’re free to skip that if you want. You won’t hurt my feelings.
Tonight we have the great Chet Baker singing “Time After Time” in 1964. No, not the Cyndi Lauper song of the same name that Miles Davis covered. This is the Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne standard from 1947.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson has been on a heater over his last 10 games. He used another big outing against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday to beat a 24-year team record last set by Sammy Sosa.
Swanson finished the blowout win against the Padres 3 for 5 with three home runs and eight RBI. The shortstop now has an impressive 26 RBI over his last 10 games.
This is the most RBI in a 10-game span for a Cubs player since Sosa had 24 RBI from August 6 to 15 in 2002, per Jesse Rogers.
The Chicago shortstop has overall had a down year at the plate, slashing just .209/.300/.421 in 82 games so far this season.
Over the last 10 games, though, something has clicked at the plate, at least in the power department.

National expectations for Clemson football aren’t nearly as low as some might have expected after last season.
Despite finishing 7-6 in 2025 and missing out on the ACC ***** le race, the Tigers begin the offseason just outside the top 25 in Athlon Sports’ preseason rankings. Clemson was slotted at No. 27 in Athlon’s full ranking of all 138 FBS programs, signaling that the publication believes Dabo Swinney’s team has the pieces to bounce back in 2026.
A big reason for that optimism is the offense. Christopher Vizzina is expected to take over at quarterback, while Chad Morris returns to Clemson to oversee the offense. The Tigers also return a talented group of receivers, giving the new quarterback an experienced supporting cast. Defensively, Sammy Brown and Will Heldt are among the key returning contributors, and Clemson addressed several needs through the transfer portal, particularly in the secondary.
The Tigers won’t have an easy path back into the national spotlight. Their season opens with a road trip to LSU, which Athlon ranked No. 10, before Clemson hosts No. 7 Miami in one of the marquee ACC matchups of the season. Rival South Carolina sits just one spot behind the Tigers at No. 28, setting up another intriguing regular-season finale.
Athlon’s top five features Ohio State at No. 1, followed by Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame and defending national champion Indiana. Miami is the ACC’s highest-ranked team, while SMU (No. 22) and Louisville (No. 23) also earned spots inside the top 25.

A century after her birth, Marilyn Monroe is being seen in a new light — not as the troubled starlet of Hollywood lore, but as a woman quietly suffering from a debilitating and largely misunderstood disease.
End of the Cycle, a new documentary featuring Amy Schumer, Julianne Hough and others, makes the case that Monroe's long-misread public persona — her absences, her multiple miscarriages and her reputation for being "difficult" — were all likely symptoms of endometriosis, Page Six reported Wednesday, June 3.
"The way she's been portrayed all these years has not been accurate," co-director Sammy Jaye said at the screening at New York City's Whitby Hotel, per the report. "If anyone mentions Marilyn Monroe in a negative way, you can revert back to this and know that she was going through [the disease] at a time when she couldn't have said anything, and there wasn't social media."
According to the outlet, Jaye, who also lives with endometriosis, noted that Monday marked what would have been Monroe's 100th birthday, adding, "You look at what has and hasn't changed over the past 100 years with treatments and medicines … not much has changed."
According to the Endometriosis Collective, a global nonprofit research organization, more than 265 million women worldwide are affected by the condition, which causes tissue similar to the uterine lining to grow outside the uterus, resulting in intense, chronic pain. The disease has no cure and cannot be diagnosed without surgery. On average, women wait 7 to 14 years to receive a diagnosis, and more than 30 percent of those with endometriosis experience infertility.
