MUMBAI: Ryan ten Doeschate has stepped down as India's men's ***** istant coach, bringing an end to his two-year stint with the national team, while Subhadeep Ghosh will be India's new fielding coach after T Dilip's contract came to an end and was not renewed, TOI has learnt.
Ten Doeschate and Dilip's final ***** ignment was India's white-ball tour of England. Both will, thus, not travel with Team India for their two-Test tour of Sri Lanka in August, while it will be the first international ***** ignment for Subhadeep, who has been the fielding coach of India A teams in the past.
During India's England tour, Ten Doeschate informed the BCCI of his decision to leave, despite being offered an extension until 2027 by the board. Although the BCCI was keen to retain him, the former Netherlands all-rounder declined the offer, citing personal reasons. With a young family, Ten Doeschate opted to step away from the demands of international cricket and its relentless travel schedule.
Meanwhile, fielding coach T Dilip is parting ways with the national team following the completion of his tenure. He will not travel with the squad for the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka.
Ten Doeschate joined the Indian coaching setup in July 2024 after former India opener Gautam Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid as the head coach following India's T20 World Cup triumph. Having worked closely with Gambhir during their successful stint at Kolkata Knight Riders, the former Netherlands all-rounder was brought into the national setup by Gambhir alongside bowling coach Morne Morkel.
During Ten Doeschate's stint, India won the Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup in 2025 and successfully defended the 2026 T20 World Cup, although the Test side endured a difficult period, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia before suffering series defeats against New Zealand (3-0) and South Africa (2-0) at home.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) may have to work overtime to get the support staff for the Indian team in order after the conclusion of the ongoing England tour. TOI understands that ***** istant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fast bowling coach Morne Morkel are contemplating moving on from their respective roles once their contracts expire after the ODI series in England this month.
"Doeschate isn't very sure of continuing with this job. He has conveyed his problems with travelling with the team throughout the year. Morkel is still weighing his options. The board is discussing the matter with the two coaches and will try to see if things can be sorted out," a BCCI source told TOI.
The Indian team is due to leave for Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in the first week of Aug. Cricket head at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman will take his CoE coaching staff with him for India's three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe in the last week of July.
Sources said that Doeschate may be in talks with an IPL franchise, while Morkel hasn't said anything firmly yet. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had handpicked these two coaches when he took charge in July 2024. The BCCI has always endorsed support staff coming through its coaching programme at the CoE. Last year, Abhishek Nayar was replaced by Sitanshu Kotak as batting coach.
If things aren't resolved with Doeschate and Morkel, the BCCI may be forced to send Lakshmipathy Balaji, who was recently appointed as the fast bowling coach at the CoE, to Sri Lanka.
Fielding coach under fire
TOI has also learnt that fielding coach T Dilip is under pressure to save his job. The board is not happy with the team's deteriorating fielding standards. Dilip got a reprieve last year after being sacked along with Nayar.

Ahead of the third and final ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai, India ******* istant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said Nitish ******* ar Reddy is emerging as the "natural successor" to Hardik Pandya as the team continues to build its all-rounder options for the future.
India have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. In recent years, the team has added several all-rounders to its pool, with Washington Sundar, Manav Suthar, Harsh Dubey providing spin-bowling all-round options.
Among the pace-bowling all-rounders, Nitish has made a strong case for himself and is being seen as a long-term option behind Hardik.
Speaking about the team's all-rounder depth, ten Doeschate said most of the available options are still bowling all-rounders.
"And when Hardik plays, he obviously brings a different element because he is such a strong batter, such a strong finisher. A sort of role scarcity is difficult to find a finisher who gives you overs as well," he said.
"So those guys are all tracking really nicely. Like I said with Nitish, for the last 18 months, he's shown glimpses of how important he can be to this team, particularly in this format. And I feel his body's getting stronger and stronger, and I sort of feel he is the natural successor or backup to Hardik," he added.
The ******* istant coach also said it was encouraging to see several all-rounders contributing with both bat and ball, especially with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
"Even someone like Gurnoor (Brar) and Harsh (Dubey), they are all bowling all-rounders. But the fact that we feel we've got guys who can hold the bat at number nine, obviously looking forward for the next 14, 15 months, that is going to be very important. Especially in South Africa, when you want to play three proper out-and-out seamers, those guys are going to need to bat. A lot of good signs on the all-rounder front and also on the fast-bowling front," he said.
Ten Doeschate also expressed satisfaction with the emerging pace-bowling group that is developing behind senior bowlers Jasprit ******* rah and Mohammed Siraj, both of whom are missing this series.
"It's fantastic. Like I say, one of the big things when this coaching staff started was always going to be the transition of the bowlers, particularly with guys like Shami not playing anymore. This week or a couple of weeks ago when we got together in Chandigarh to see those three young guys coming in fold, it was literally like a Wow moment.
"The way Gurnoor (Brar) has bowled in his first two games, to see a young Indian pacer hit 147, 148, it's like, I'm sure you guys are all excited as we are. Obviously the T20 was a big lead up for the next 15 months and to balance the experience that this team has,” he said.

India will lock horns with Afghanistan for the final time in the bilateral series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday afternoon.
With the hosts having already sealed the series with an unbeatable 2-0 cushion, Rohit Sharma will be keen to sign off on a strong note after failing to get big scores in the first two ODIs.
His case was made easier after stand-in opener Yashasvi Jaiswal managed just four runs in that game.
Harshit Rana, freshly back in the mix, is tipped to feature against Afghanistan, while the team management may rest KL Rahul and hand Ishan Kishan a turn behind the stumps. All-rounder Nitish Reddy is also fit and ready, and ***** istant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed on Friday that he will play.

TimesofIndia.com in Chennai: India may have already sealed the ODI series against Afghanistan, but the final game in Chennai is far from a dead rubber. For the team management, it is another opportunity to tick boxes on the road to the 2027 ODI World Cup, test combinations and, most importantly, ensure that every player in the squad gets a meaningful opportunity.
One of those players is opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The left-hander endured a disappointing outing in the previous ODI, but India's ******* istant coach Ryan ten Doeschate made it clear that one failure would not cost him his place. Jaiswal is set for another opportunity, a reflection of the management's commitment to giving fringe players a proper run rather than judging them on a single innings.
"We also want another look at Yashasvi Jaiswal. He didn't get runs in the last game, so he'll get another opportunity," ten Doeschate said on the eve of the third ODI.
The message from the Indian camp has been consistent. Winning remains the first priority, but so does building depth. That balancing act is evident in the likely changes for Friday's game.
Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, who has impressed in the first two matches, is likely to be rested as part of workload management. The batting order, too, will undergo a reshuffle, with the top three set to remain the same. Between Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer one will miss out as both all-rounders Washington Sundar and Nitish ******* ar Reddy are set to feature in the playing XI.
"We will be making a few changes from the first two games. Part of the brief coming into the series was that we wanted to try a few different combinations and give everyone a fair share of games. Someone like Arshdeep has bowled very well in the first two games; he can probably take a rest tomorrow, and the same goes for one of the batters. We'll swap them out and go back to playing a slightly different side," he added.
That flexibility has become one of India's biggest strengths in white-ball cricket. Several batters are capable of occupying multiple positions, allowing the management to experiment without significantly weakening the side. The same philosophy extends to the all-rounders, where Nitish ******* ar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube are all being ******* sed for different roles.
According to ten Doeschate, Nitish remains an important long-term investment.
"Nitish has shown over the last 18 months how important he can become for this team. His body is getting stronger, and we see him as the natural backup to Hardik."
Yet the spotlight remains firmly on Jaiswal.
Few players in Indian cricket have had to deal with such fierce competition for a place at the top of the order. With Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, opportunities have been limited for the southpaw.
Ten Doeschate acknowledged the challenge of managing a squad overflowing with batting talent.
