Stripe's top executives observe a "growing advantage" of remaining a privately held company, they said in a letter to investors last week.
This year marked the start of what Stripe executives called "a large inflection in long-run trends," fueled by artificial intelligence, wrote John and Patrick Collison, the Irish brothers who co-founded Stripe in 2010 and still lead it.
Being a private company offers "a growing advantage as we venture into the vicissitudes" of this era, they wrote on Wednesday. The letter was also signed by Will Gaybrick, Stripe's president of technology and business. Patrick Collison is the company's chief executive and John Collison is its president.
A Stripe spokesperson on Thursday confirmed the authenticity of the letter, which was first reported by Axios, the newsletter publisher.

Earlier this week, UCLA men's basketball alumnus Russell Westbrook retired from the NBA after 18 remarkable seasons spent with seven franchises.
Since the Bruins legend called it a career, many professionals from across the sports world have reacted to the news, including fellow UCLA alumnus Darren Collison. The 11-year NBA veteran recalled on NBA TV's "The **** ociation" when Westbrook earned Kobe Bryant's respect while he was still a student in Westwood.
"We obviously played a lot of the NBA guys throughout the offseason when they came to UCLA and the late Kobe Bryant was one of them. I remember Kobe Bryant, he just pretty much had it with everybody on the court during a pickup game, but there was this one particular moment when Russ was guarding him," Collison recalled. "Russ kind of made it a little bit more difficult and Russ was still in college. I'm not saying he stopped him by any means necessary. We know how great of a scorer he was, but he gained Kobe's respect.
"Russ became one of the premier dominant defenders throughout that whole college season and I think that was the start of it. When you see Russ guarding Kobe throughout the pickup game, you're like, 'OK, whoa, I think we got something.' We have one of the best defenders even on our team."
Based on this story and many others, it's clear that Westbrook has always had that "dawg" in him from a very young age.

And Kylan Boswell is experiencing it in full this week.
The Champaign native watched 30 players selected on Tuesday night during the first round of the 2026 NBA draft without his involvement. While that was the expectation for the Illinois guard — zero mock drafts or draft conversations included him as a first-round option — it doesn't change the fact that just 30 picks remain.
Just 30 more opportunities for Boswell to hear his name called on Wednesday night when the second round gets underway again at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and jump-start the next stage of his basketball career. The stage he's been working to hit for the better part of a decade from his days as a middle-school star in Champaign and Urbana to workouts with pros like Darren Collison as a teenager and a successful four-year college career.
It really is the hardest part.

NBA announces 2026 Draft Lottery team representatives, including Vince Carter for the Nets
The NBA announced each representative for the 14 teams in Sunday’s NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago. Those on stage are a mix of former team greats and current NBA stars, along with less exciting front-office executives and, in one case, a family member of team ownership.
The representatives attending the lottery are as follows, listed in alphabetical order by team:

Brooklyn Nets: Vince Carter, team legend
Charlotte Hornets: Kon Knueppel
