DaSaahn Brame immediately became one of Tennessee's most important players when tight end Ethan Davis suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
Brame, a sophomore tight end, should make the biggest jump in the depth chart to replace Davis. But others could factor in as the Vols try to retool their offensive plan after losing a valuable player.
Davis suffered the knee injury in the Vols' 45-24 win over Georgia Tech on Sept. 12. Coach Josh Heupel announced on Sept. 14 that he will miss the remainder of the season.
Davis is the fifth UT player to suffer a season-ending injury, joining starting safety Edrees Farooq (knee), backup receiver Joakim Dodson (leg), reserve linebacker Jaedon Harmon (knee) and Miami transfer cornerback Jadais Richard (upper-body).
It's a costly loss. Davis, a senior starter, caught a TD pass in each of UT's first two games. And he's been an effective blocker in the Vols' rushing offense, which ranks sixth nationally.

Tennessee tight end Ethan Davis is out for the season with an ACL injury, coach Josh Heupel said on Sept. 14.
Davis, a senior, had a good start to the season, catching touchdown passes in each of the first two games. He had three catches for 43 yards. But he will miss the remainder of the season.
Sophomore DaSaahn Brame and South Alabama transfer Trent Thomas will pick up more of the load in replacing Davis.
No. 14 Tennessee (2-0) plays Kennesaw State (1-1) on Sept. 19 (7:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network) at Neyland Stadium.

Tight end DaSaahn Brame returns to Tennessee for his second season in 2026.
He totaled six receptions for 63 yards as a freshman last season. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound sophomore has appeared in nine games for the Vols.
Following Tennessee's second practice during fall training camp on Thursday, tight ends coach Alec Abeln discussed Brame's growth since spring.
"One, just mastery of the offense, knowing what to do," Abeln said. "It's hard to do anything at a high level until you feel really confident in what you're doing.
"To the last point, man, the work that those guys have done in the weight room, on the field, those guys are moving better, they're stronger, they're more explosive, allowing him to translate in the box a little bit more, and, you know, really excited to see what he'll do this camp."

Tennessee has some questions entering this season, but depth at the skill positions isn't one of them. Particularly at tight end, where Tennessee lost Miles Kitselman, the Volunteers are locked and loaded with guys like Ethan Davis, Trent Thomas, DaSaahn Brame, Cole Harrison, Luca Wolf and Drake Martinez.
Easily the most coveted prospect of the group is Brame, who chose Tennessee over Oregon two recruiting cycles ago. The Derby, Kansas native was a 4-star prospect ranking inside of the top 50 overall by On3. Standing in at 6-5, 240 pounds, Brame is a matchup nightmare waiting to happen.
Going into year two and moving up a notch or two on the depth chart, Brame should have plenty more opportunities as a sophomore this season.

Brame, just like many others on the roster, is up ten pounds from last season's listing. He appeared in nine games as a true freshman despite being buried at fourth on the depth chart. Brame ended up catching six passes for 63 yards, three of which came against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Interestingly enough, Brame was also used a bit as a slot option later in the year as the injuries piled up.
