As the trade deadline quickly approaches, the Mets have made the first of what is expected to be several moves before the deadline. The Mets traded relief pitcher AJ Minter to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for two Minor League infield prospects, Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani. After a disappointing season, this jumpstarts the Mets trade deadline sell-off.
Trade news: The Minnesota Twins are acquiring left-handed reliever A.J. Minter from the New York Mets, sources tell ESPN.

The Mets' selling starts with one of the top relievers on the market. There will be many more Mets deals to come before Aug. 3.
Minter has been a bright spot for the Mets in relief with a 1-1 record, 2.35 ERA, and 20 strikeouts in the 2026 season. The Twins currently rank 27th in ERA in relief pitching, so Minter should bring a boost to their lackluster bullpen.
The Twins currently sit at .500 with a 55-55 record as they continue to fight for a Wild Card spot, currently one game back of the Guardians for the third spot in the AL.
Minter has only seen the mound for 23 innings this season with the Metropolitans, but his usage should increase with his new team in Minnesota, who are in desperate need of a reliable relief pitcher out of the bullpen.

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal will likely be the biggest domino to fall before the 2026 MLB trade deadline. Plenty of other big names have emerged in rumors, however, from former Cy Young winners to one of the league's top sluggers.
The New York Mets -- who'll likely be busy over the next few days -- helped get the action going by sending reliever A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for infielders Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick. Agbayani is the son of Benny Agbayani, who played parts of four seasons for the Mets.
New York is far from the only seller, so with the deadline looming, let's take a look at some non-Skubal stars who would generate the most buzz if they were dealt.
The Cincinnati Reds ace is staying put, as USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale reports the All-Star righty is no longer available after some earlier trade buzz.
A longtime subject of trade rumors, the 2022 Cy Young winner is likely to stick with the Miami Marlins through the deadline, according to Nightengale. The Marlins are reportedly listening on every other player on the roster, however.

NEW YORK — The Minnesota Twins acquired left-handed reliever A.J. Minter from the New York Mets for minor league infielders Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick, reinforcing a thin bullpen ahead of the trade deadline.
The 19-year-old Agbayani, who is the son of former Mets fan favorite Benny Agbayani, is a middle infielder who hit .268 in 10 games for Fort Myers in low Class A this season. The sixth-round 2025 draft pick, a native of Hawaii, has been limited by injuries.
The 23-year-old Amick batted .217 with 23 homers in 86 games for Double-A Wichita this season, playing first and third base. He was a second-round draft pick in 2024.
Minter had a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings with 20 strikeouts and only two walks. He didn't make his season debut until May 26, going more than a year between major league appearances. His 2025 season ended after 13 appearances when he injured his left lat muscle in his back and needed surgery.
Minter signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Mets in 2025. His 2024 season with the Atlanta Braves also was cut short by a torn labrum in his left hip, but when he's been healthy he's been one of baseball's most effective late-game lefties. The 33-year-old, who was a second-round 2015 draft pick by the Braves, has a 3.18 ERA with 456 strikeouts in 382 2/3 innings over 420 career appearances.
