With the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season, it will be a reunion of sorts for quarterback Kyler Murray and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. As the Vikings' new quarterback in Murray looks to bring back an exciting feel to the franchise, and he would speak on facing his former head coach.
Murray spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals before signing to Minnesota in the offseason, as Gannon was the head coach of the team from 2023 to 2025. When Murray was asked on Thursday about what he expects in facing a Packers defense led by Gannon, he spoke from experience, also calling him "one of my favorite coaches I've ever had."
"What do I expect? Expect them to play super hard, be competitive," Murray said, via Ben Goessling. "You know, a lot more things, but nonetheless, you know, JG [Gannon], you know, loved my time with him, so I know how hard he's going to coach his guys and how hard he's going to have them playing. So that's something we got to be ready for."
