Back then, anyone who played, coached, covered, reffed, regulated or followed Connecticut high school football in the slightest degree knew the name Jack Cochran.
It was arguably the biggest in the game and certainly the most polarizing. The volatile coach who had won a combined eight state championships with Bloomfield, New Britain and his alma mater New London, and routed many an overmatched opponent along the way, had a peerless resume for winning games and a reputation for controversial conduct. No matter what you thought about him, an introduction was not necessary.
But it's funny what can happen to even the most household of names, even in their hometown, if they stay on the shelf long enough.
Aside from a brief return in 2013 at Harding in Bridgeport, Jack Cochran was out of high school football for 17 years.
