Sep. 1—PARKSTON, S.D. — For three seasons, Mason Jervik has been one of the players Parkston turns to with the football.
Now, with his high school career in its final chapter, the 6-foot, 165-pound senior running back is determined to make the most of every carry.
"It's just crazy to think this is the final year, but I am excited to make the most of it," Jervik said.
Jervik has been a key piece of the Trojans' offense since his sophomore season when he took over as a starting running back and quickly established himself as one of Parkston's most dependable playmakers. He has continued to grow into that role, pairing his vision and explosiveness in the backfield with the experience of running behind an offensive line he credits for much of his success.
Through two games so far in the season, Jervik has helped lead the Class 9AA top-ranked Trojans to a 2-0 start, with both victories coming on the road. Parkston opened the season with a 54-24 victory at Hill City before traveling to Platte-Geddes on Aug. 28 and knocking off the then-No. 3-ranked Black Panthers 30-6.
