MADISON – Wisconsin volleyball is starting the third week of its 2026 season with some good news and some more ambiguous news on the injury front.
The Badgers will "hopefully" get middle blocker Jaela Auguste back on the court "sometime soon" after missing the past two matches, Wisconsin coach Kelly Sheffield said Aug. 31 at his weekly news conference.
Outside hitter Grace Egan also missed the Badgers' three-set loss to No. 4 Pittsburgh on Aug. 30, but Sheffield said that was a "coach's decision."
Sheffield said that the absence of Egan, one of the few returning starters from the 2025 team that reached the national semifinals, was not a case of "being penalized because somebody's playing poorly."
"Egan was out for the entire spring and summer, and so there's a little bit of protecting her as well as moving forward," Sheffield said. "But also of trying to see some other people. A couple people got their first career starts or their first starts of the season against Pitt. … She was available then. She should be available moving up."
