NEW HAVEN - It doesn't take much to get Jakyi Wright to smile.
Even on the football field, during practice or a game, you will often see a smile on the face of the wide receiver from Hillhouse.
"That is an infectious smile," Hillhouse football coach Walter Gibbs said. "I try to get him not to smile so much, but he is such a good kid. He always has a positive attitude."
Wright, a junior, has plenty of reasons to smile. He is coming off a breakout season in which he quickly became one of the best receivers in the SCC and the state.
The 6-foot-1 Wright finished 2025 with 1,131 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 20.9 yards per reception. He was selected to the New Haven Register All-State Third Team last year, in addition to the All-SCC First Team.
