Dolly Parton revealed she turned down Kate Middleton's invitation for tea at Buckingham Palace. The legendary country singer passed away on August 25, having previously discussed her near-meeting with the Prince and Princess of Wales. Although she had to decline Middleton's invitation, Parton instead invited the Princess, her husband, and their children to her place.
Dolly Parton previously explained on BBC Radio 2 that she had to decline Middleton's invitation because her schedule was packed with work during her UK trip. She said she felt "very sweet and nice" about the invitation and hoped they would have another chance to meet.
In a later interview with Closer, Parton extended the Waleses an invite to her Dollywood theme park for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The country icon dished: "Oh, I would absolutely love for them to come to Dollywood, that would be fantastic! The kids could go on all the rides, and we would treat them like royalty!"
Continuing further, she expressed: "I'd give Kate my mashed potatoes – I wouldn't put on any airs for them. I would just let them enjoy what we enjoy, and I'm sure that's the way they would want it. I would love to have those kids at Dollywood."
The "9 to 5" crooner also spoke about Middleton's invitation in an interview with BBC Radio 2's Claudia Winkleman. Parton said: "This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate, but I couldn't even go. I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me and one of these days I'm going to get to do that – that would be great."
