Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has established himself as the frontrunner for the American League MVP award, an honor that has been dominated by New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge when healthy.
Judge isn't healthy. He has been on the Yankees' injured list since May because of a rib injury, and only began taking swings again last week.
In the meantime, Alvarez isn't just taking aim at the MVP award — he's swinging for a single-season American League record Judge set last year.

More appropriately, Alvarez is walking toward the record 90 feet at a time. He's up to 28 intentional walks through Tuesday, Aug. 25, eight shy of Judge's 2025 total.
