Gigi Hadid is opening up about the brutal realities she faced breaking into the modeling industry, revealing she was body-shamed and told she needed to lose weight if she wanted to succeed.
The 31-year-old, who had worked as a child model before pursuing it full-time as a teenager, recalled the criticism she faced after signing with IMG Models at 17 in a new interview with Vogue France.
Hadid said she was repeatedly made to feel that her body didn't fit the industry's expectations, recalling comments including, "With that body, you'll never walk the runway for Victoria's Secret" and "You'd have to lose so many kilos."

Despite being judged on her weight at such a young age, Hadid said she refused to let the criticism convince her she had nothing to offer.
