Manchester United boss Michael Carrick was in the stands at Leigh Sports Village as JJ Gabriel marked his Premier League 2 debut by scoring a brilliant second-half goal in a 5-0 win against Ipswich Town.
Carrick gave 15-year-old Gabriel his first senior minutes in pre-season when he brought the forward on against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on 1 August.
It proved to be Gabriel's only appearance, although he was part of Carrick's squad for all but the first game against Wrexham in Helsinki.
Gabriel has already made an impact at under-21 level in the build-up to the new campaign, but against a physically much bigger Ipswich side, he set up Victor Musa for Manchester United's opener within two minutes.
Last season's Premier League Under-18 player of the year also teed up full-back Jaydan Kamason in a one-sided first half.
