There are a lot of differences between college football and the NFL. One difference is the ability to hold joint practices and preseason games, which some college coaches have expressed interest in implementing.
Washington Commanders rookie receiver Antonio Williams can finally play in joint practices and the preseason now that he is in the NFL. So far, he has noticed differences between regular practice with his teammates and joint practices like the one the Commanders had with the Miami Dolphins.
"When your practicing against your own teammates, [it is] a lot different," Williams told Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan recently. "You want to be more safe and cautious. But then when you see a different jersey and a guy you don't know, even in joint practice, it's a little bit different. You don't really have that cautiousness. Just going out there and playing and having more aggressiveness. I would say it's pretty similar to a game except you're not tackling in the practice."
Williams got his first joint practice and preseason home game under his belt last week against the Dolphins. On Saturday, Williams had his first NFL road game against the Detroit Lions. He was impressive, catching two passes for 41 yards.
Washington will have its final joint practice and final preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
