Hayden Panettiere's mother, Lesley Vogel, is explaining the rocky relationship that she had with her daughter following the actress' untimely death.
In a statement provided to Entertainment Tonight, Vogel attempted to address her estrangement from the former Nashville star.
"Although my daughter and I were estranged, it was not for lack of care or love," Vogel said in a statement on Thursday. "It was due to the involvement of a toxic individual who I believe led to her death."
"Hayden was a beautiful and talented young woman who unfortunately became involved with the wrong person, and although her family tried to extricate him from her life, we were unable to be successful," Vogel's statement continued.
In her previous statement after Panettiere's death, Vogel's comments drew swift criticism.
