As reported by Kicker, there is expected to be large-scale protests throughout the DFB Pokal this weekend, as fans demand the abolishment of VAR.
Throughout the weekend, 64 teams ranging from the Bundesliga down to the Oberliga will be taking part in Germany's national cup competition. Whilst the use of Video **** istant Referee (VAR) will not be used in round one, fans of several clubs will still be making their voices heard as they attempt to scrap the technology within the game.
In a joint statement signed by various supporters from different clubs, they argue that the emotional side of the game, which makes football so special, is being ruined due to the use of VAR.
"In the first round of the cup, which is now starting, we are seeing football as it should be: without VAR, and therefore authentic, immediate, and full of emotion. We want to return to this state permanently and therefore demand the abolition of the Video **** istant Referee in German football."
