Mike Maddux has experienced a lot of success as a pitching coach over his career. But even his advice couldn't save the Los Angeles Angels.
Maddux — as well as ****** istant pitching coach Darryl Scott and bullpen coach Dom Chiti — was reportedly fired by the Angels on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Maddux, who took a one-year deal with the team in the offseason, was just a few months into that contract before being let go.
The Angels are mired in yet another miserable season. With the team sitting at 45-74 entering play Tuesday, the front office apparently decided Maddux's approach wasn't working and that he didn't need to stick around for the rest of his deal.
Entering play Tuesday, Angels pitching ranks 24th in MLB with a 4.53 ERA.
