The NBA is giving the Boston Celtics a familiar opponent for one of the biggest games of the regular season. Boston will face the Miami Heat on Christmas Day as part of a five-game showcase on ABC and ESPN, the league officially announced Monday.
The complete schedule also includes the San Antonio Spurs against the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets against the Golden State Warriors.
Every matchup offers considerable star power, but Celtics-Heat carries something the others cannot manufacture: years of genuine animosity and postseason history.
Boston and Miami have repeatedly collided with championships at stake. Their latest meeting will arrive on one of the NBA's grandest stages, giving the Celtics another national opportunity to display their reshaped roster.
