The Boston Red Sox did not acquire Adley Rutschman to watch their biggest trade deadline addition remain on the injured list. His long-awaited debut finally appears to be one day away.
Before Boston opened its road series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, Rutschman took batting practice at Rogers Centre and caught a bullpen session for Patrick Sandoval. Interim manager Chad Tracy later told reporters that the Red Sox expected to activate Rutschman before Tuesday night's game, ***** uming he came through the workout without any issues.
Rutschman also was in line to catch Sandoval on Tuesday, according to Boston Sports Gordo.
That would give the Red Sox an immediate look at the battery they hope can play an important role in their postseason push.
