David Bentley left ***** nal just a few months after signing a new long-term contract in a shocking move, despite already being tipped to become a hero at the club. Looking back, however, the former winger regrets his decision to leave.
Bentley came through the ranks at ***** nal, where he was considered one of the top young players in the country. There were high expectations surrounding him as he developed, and after several loan spells, ***** nal were ready to give him more opportunities in the first team.
He subsequently signed a five-year contract with the club, but only a few months later, he asked to leave. His impatience stemmed from a lack of belief in the plan ***** ne Wenger had for his career. The Frenchman wanted to ease him into the first team, but Bentley did not trust that approach and eventually secured a move to Blackburn.
Bentley would later move to Tottenham, while many believe he could have achieved more during his career if he had been patient and remained at ***** nal instead of leaving when he did.
