The former two-division Ultimate Fighting Championship king announced that he ispreparing to undergo surgery after suffering ACL and meniscusinjuries in his rematch with MaxHolloway at UFC 329.
McGregor damaged his ACL and meniscus with the first kick he threwat UFC 329. After struggling to plant his feet while throwingstrikes and repeatedly falling to the canvas, the referee stoppedthe bout after just 69 seconds."Notorious" is now headed foranother surgery, the fifth surgery of his career.
"Well folks, here we go again! Surgery number 5 of my career comingup!" McGregor wrote on Instagram. "All things considered that is anok number! Let's do it, WE GOT THIS!"
Notably, McGregor suffered the same ACL and meniscus injuries inhis other knee during his first bout with Holloway in 2013, whichhe won by decision. He took nearly a year to return from thatinjury. McGregor's other major in-cage injury was an infamous legbreak in his trilogy bout against DustinPoirier, which was followed by a nearly five-year UFChiatus.
McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC contract and expects tocomplete it next year. The Irishman previously stated that he'seyeing an Octagon return for next summer, with International FightWeek 2027 as his target.
