Ja'Lynn Polk has stepped away from professional football at 24, ending a brief NFL career before he could complete his attempted comeback with the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans placed the wide receiver on the reserve/retired list on August 2, less than one week into the team's training camp.
The Saints' official roster announcement noted that Polk had missed the previous two practices with an excused absence and sat out the entire 2025 season because of a shoulder injury.
Polk has not publicly released a statement explaining his decision.
Polk participated in the Saints' offseason program and was practicing when training camp opened in late July. Head coach Kellen Moore said the receiver was excused from two practices for personal reasons shortly before the team announced his retirement.
