Savannah Guthrie's missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, may have died shortly after she was allegedly taken from her home.
In a ransom note sent to the Today coanchor and her family, the writer claims, "We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition. We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken."
"We believe it was heart related," the writer said regarding the alleged death of Nancy, who was 84 years old when she went missing. "She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome."
"We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace," the note read. "We are truly sorry."
The note, sent to Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD-TV on February 6, was part of new information released on Friday, July 31, by the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
